A TRIP to MN...

I had a great trip to MN last weekend. It started with picking up Kara in Oshkosh and a long road trip to the Twin Cities. It was nice to have someone to drive with, to make the 5+ hour trip go faster. Friday, we went right to see my Uncle Dale who is at a rehab facility recovering from his stroke. I hadn't seen him since the stroke, so i was glad to be able to see him and give him a big hug as I am so grateful for God's healing in his life.. He is staying in a nice place and has made great progress considering his stroke was only 4 months ago. He can walk, do most daily cares and is in a lot of occupational and physical therapy and speech therapy. Speech is his greatest challenge which is common after a stroke. You know that he wants to tell you something but has difficutly connecting his thoughts with the words, so there is a lot of yes/no and guessing what he wants to say. Please continue to pray for his speech:) The great thing is that although his speech is limited, he understands everything going on around him and the conversations. IT was sooo great to see his personality shine through his facial expressions as he rolled his eyes at his sister Lori, or smiling at everyone. He also liked to point out his war scars on his head from having part of skull removed and then put back in. Dale wants to be home so badly so hopefully that will come soon.

Saturday was filled with shopping during the day (of course!) and Saturday night, all relatives that were in town went out for dinner for my Grandpa's 75th birthday including my Uncle Dale. He seemed to appreciate the night out with his siblings and his sons, Jack and Joe. Sunday morning we woke up to news about my uncle Les who was visiting MN having to be admitted to the hospital overnight. He had a recent knee injury 3 weeks ago that apparently caused a blood clot in his lungs and he had to be put on medication and hospitalized for 2 days. My parents had to stay in MN longer as they were Les's ride back home to WI once he was discharged. Thank God that Les felt pain and went to the hospital once he did, as there could have been worse outcomes. Scary how fast things can change. Sunday morning was spent at the hospital visiting Uncle Les
Sunday afternoon, I met up with my good friend Erin for more shopping and dinner out. I then spend the night at her home and relaxing and catching up.

This weekend made me miss MN.. I miss everything up there including my relatives, friends and all the fun things to do. I go through phases like this. I wish Milwaukee and the twin cities were only an hour a way so i could have both. I was thankful to get home Monday and see my husband who I missed a lot.

This week is the start of reality, back to classes and homework. I am glad I got away one last time before the semester starts and see those who are important to me.
