Ponderings... things I am learning.

Wow I haven't blogged in a while. Life is going great, busy with work and not much else going on with us right now. I thought I would share what things I have learned lately in my job and in life.

1) Age is relative.
I have had patients in the hospital who are 93 years old (look about 70), fully independent and have lots of family and a boyfriend and I have met 53 year old patients that look 85 and have horrible health and not a family member that cares about them. The number really means nothing, good health and supportive people in your life really means everything to a satsifying life. ( well I would also add faith in God too)

2)Family is huge.
I love my family and I love visiting extended family out of state, hanging out with my sister, spending time with my family and Jon's family. I love my in-laws and friesema family as much as I love my own. I am very blessed. Family is huge to me. I make it a priority and make sacrafices sometimes to visit others because it is so important. In my job, family involvement is so important. Family is what makes or breaks a person from recovering. Making family relationship important is work though, and it doesn't always come easier and without conflict. It takes effort and sacrifice.

3) "Girlfriends" are needed at any stage of life.
I don't really get women who feel like they don't need to maintain thier relationships with girlfriends after they get married, really? First of all its not healthy to be isolated to just your husband and secondly there are just some things better with girlfriends like pedicures and shopping. I enjoy time with friends and I look forward to my weekend trips away with them. I am loooking forward to a road trip with Emmy, Noelle and my sister Kara up to MN for my cousin Sara's baby shower nex weekend:) I also just booked a trip to Montreal in August with two of good girlfriends for a long weekend. I cannot wait.

4) Lately..I am reminded of how much I LOVE SPRING!
I love the days where its sunny, trees are budding and it just smells like Spring outside. Its such a great to see new life in plants and even birds come back in Spring and reminds us that the dreadful winter doesn't last forever.

Happy Spring!
