Its Earth Day. For most people who read this blog you initial reaction is probably the same as mine for many years, what do I care?
Well I am starting to realize not that I should care about "earth day" but i should care about the environment. I think sometimes as Christians we are the most hypocritical group when it comes to protecting the environment and conserving energy. Several things in the past few months and the oprah episode today have really made me question my motives for apathy. God gave us this beautiful planet full of nature and trees and great things, but everyday we produce lbs of garbage that pollutes our land and most of it never decomposes. Is it really being a good steward of the earth God gave us??? I don't think so. We should care about the environment and what God gave us to take care of.
Its the little things that make a difference. I am just as guilty as the rest of you in not caring but it does matter. So if we all made little steps to reduce our garbage, recycle more it would go a long way. My new goal is to avoid using plastic bags. They kill animals and fill our landfills without decomposing. I have bought a couple of those reusable bags and I need to buy more and remember to use them when i get groceries or a run to Target. Also making the effort to seperate and recycle anything that can be. Its the little changes that make a difference. I am not about to start growing my own food or start a compost outside my apartment but I can make small changes to be a better steward of the earth God gave us to take care of. I challenge you to do the same. Just my thought for the day.
